Slot Review: Mr. Cashback
Players who wager at Internet casinos like to hear the term Cashback, hence the reason Playtech, the Internet's leading gaming software provider, has released a new slot game titled Mr. Cashback.
Mr Cashback slot has 5 reels and 15 paylines, with a maximum wager per payline of 10 coins. Coin values range from 0.05 to 1.00. The payout ratio for this slot is reportedly 95.46%.
Icons include sacks of gold coins, piggy bank, stacks of cash and of course Mr Cash Back himself. The game has wilds, scatters, a unique Mr Cash Back feature, and free spins with multiplier and special freezing wilds.
The cigar smoking Mr. Cashback is the wild symbol. If five of these symbols appear in an enabled payline, you've hit the jackpot! The jackpot payout is of 7,500 coins. That means $75,000 if you're playing Max Bet.
If three or more Scatter symbols (Mr. Cashback logo) appear any place on the reels you will get scatter payouts in addition to unleashing the free spins feature. Twelve free spins are awarded and all payouts are doubled, plus there are special freezing wilds which appear randomly on the reels. The gold coin special Wild carries a number ranging from 1 to 4, which indicates the number of spins the freezing wild will remain in place.
The Mr. Cashback Feature is unique and the first time that such a feature is introduced in any slot game. In this feature if a single active payline does not win 50 times in a row the player receives a cashback of 50 times the line bet. The cashback status of a payline is saved upon deactivating and reactivating the payline. It is even saved when exiting the game and restored on the next session.
The game keeps a different counter for each coin value. For instance, the cashback counter for a bet level of 1 coin is kept separate from the 10 coins counter. So you can play around with the bet size, as the game will keep all of your cashback counters in memory. However, the cashback status may be reset if you change the coin value, so be careful with that.
This is an innovative feature for sure, but otherwise this slot machine isn't all that special. The symbols are rather generic, and the high-value playing card symbols go all the way down to the number 9, which is indicative of a lack of imagination on the part of Playtech. However, overall this game is a solid addition to Playtech's portfolio, and we expect to see more slots games in the future with this "cashback" feature.
How about a slot machine that gives a cashback after only 10 spins with no wins? It would be friendlier to low wager players, as 50 spins with all paylines active can be a lot of money even at the lowest coin value. The overall chance of winning -- i.e. ending up with a positive balance from where you started -- after 50 spins is 37.933% (at 95.46% payout ratio), so mathematically speaking this cashback feature isn't all that good (since no slot game is profitable to the player over the long run), but it can still help you get some money back after playing for a while.
Overall this is a solid online casino slot game worth playing if just for the new, unique feature that no other slot game has as of yet (August 2011).
